Full definition

The Map Pack (also called the Local Pack or 3-Pack) is Google's three-result display showing local businesses for geographically-relevant queries. For home service contractors, the Map Pack appears for queries like 'gutter installer Kansas City' or 'roofer near me' and typically captures 30-50% of clicks. Map Pack ranking factors include Google Business Profile completeness, review signals, proximity, citation consistency, and on-page signals from the linked website.

Why it matters

For home service contractors, Map Pack visibility often drives more leads than the company website itself. Ranking in the top 3 versus position 4-10 can mean 5-10× more calls.

Example

When a homeowner searches 'HVAC repair Olathe' on Google, the Map Pack shows three HVAC companies at the top — those three companies dominate phone volume for that query.
