LocalBusiness Schema
Schema markup type that identifies a website as belonging to a local business and specifies its NAP, hours, and service area.
LocalBusiness schema (or one of its many subtypes like ProfessionalService, HomeAndConstructionBusiness, Plumber, RoofingContractor) is JSON-LD structured data that explicitly tells search engines this site represents a local business. Required fields include name, address, telephone, and openingHours. Recommended: geo coordinates, areaServed, sameAs (social profiles).
Without LocalBusiness schema, Google has to infer that you're a local business from indirect signals. With it, Google knows definitively.
A KC roofing site with proper LocalBusiness schema (including geo coordinates and Kansas City service area) is more likely to appear in Map Pack searches across the entire KC metro.
Schema Markup (Structured Data, JSON-LD)
Code added to a website that explicitly tells search engines and AI engines what the page is about.
Map Pack (Local Pack)
The block of 3 local business listings that appears at the top of Google search results for location-specific queries, alongside a map.
JSON-LD
The recommended JSON-based format for writing schema markup on websites.
NAP (Name, Address, Phone)
The Name, Address, and Phone number of a business — and the consistency of that information across the web.
